The Daily Catch | Fishing Report – June 2023

Don’t Miss your Chance for a KEEPER! The June red snapper season opener has been fast and furious – if we can get the fishing and weather aligned, July is going to be even hotter!!!

2023 For-Hire Seasons

Red Grouper | January 1st to July 21st

American Red Snapper | June 1st to August 24th

Greater Amberjack | August 1st to August 24th

Gag Grouper | September 1st to November 10th

On our near shore 4–6-hour trips, we’re seeing key west snapper, porgies, sea bass, Spanish macs, small grouper, and some nice lane snapper action starting around 50 feet and deeper.  On our all-day trips (8 –10-12 hours), lanes are even more plentiful. They like the ledges and rocky bottoms. Mangrove snapper action is decent on longer half-day trips, they are found a little deeper than the lane snapper this time of year.

Red grouper is still okay near sure but are typically too small to keep.  We are still seeing red grouper action on our longer all-day trips.  They are hitting live bait, squid, and thread fin. Red Grouper Fishing closes July 21 at 12:01 AM so July 20 is your last chance to grab a keeper red grouper. We’re finding the red grouper while fishing for red snapper on our deep-sea, all-day trips!

Most long trips are focused on Red snapper.  The weather in July was great until it wasn’t; with > 8-10 ft seas offshore when the wind was really howling. The past week or so has been better and made it easier to get deep.  We have been using live and cut dead bait for red snapper.

What else is around? Scamp grouper, yellow tail snapper, little mahi, and the occasional blackfin tuna or wahoo for the lucky angler in the deep.
